In early May Sponsored Programs Administration (SPA) will be distributing Effort Statements (aka Time & Effort Reports, Effort Certification) for the period July 1, 2022, through December 31, 2022.
Effort Statements are required for any NIU faculty, staff, or student receiving pay from any sponsor funded award. Hourly employees verify their time via time-sheets and do not receive Effort Statements.
Colleges and Divisions will receive all Effort Statements for distribution to their faculty, staff, and students. Statements will be due back to SPA by May 31, 2023. SPA will review any corrections to reports and will work with the Principal Investigator and their department to make any necessary adjustments.

Note that the policy was recently updated to expand effort reporting to all sponsors. This change was made to comply with State of Illinois grant requirements (30 ILCS 708/1 et seq) and to provide assurance to all sponsors that the salary and associated fringe benefit costs charged to projects they support are fair, consistent, and timely.
